The Birmingham VA request to replace the outdated unit which does not communicate into our electronic records system. The Carl Zeiss Atlas 500 is to be used to evaluate a minimum of one hundred Veterans weekly to watch for progression of corneal dystrophies. The Atlas 500 is a corneal topographer used to scan the eye of a patient and provides a corneal topography analysis. The topography analysis will display the curvature, elevation, corneal wavefront. This device measures cornea prior to cataract surgery and for medically necessary contact lenses. It is used to follow patients following cornea surgery and to look for irregularities in the cornea in patients with visual problems.
