Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)/Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) mini-split and multi-split air-conditioning and heat-pump systems. These systems are often referred to as "Ductless-Split" which refers to the main components being "split" apart from one another, typically one condensing unit outside and one (or more) cassette (evaporator) units inside. Refrigerant pipes transport the cooling or heating energy between the outdoor and indoor unit(s). These systems generally do not require ductwork, hence the name “ductless.” This class of equipment is subdivided into three categories (i.e., Mini-Split, Multi-Split, and VRF/VRV) all of which are covered under this waiver.
