Procurement Summary
The goal of the gene therapy manufacturing innovations in measurement sciences (IMS) project, within the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Biosystems and Biomaterials Division (BBD), Material Measurement Laboratory, is to develop light scattering microscopy methods to characterize gene delivery particles. The requirement is for a new electrophysiological-style upright microscopy platform that can perform both fluorescence and bright field microscopy and that has a large breadboard platform stage for attachment of an end-user customized prism-based light scatter illumination system.
Waiver Rationale Summary
Consistent with market research results, no domestic product has been identified that can meet the Government's requirements. The required Olympus BX51W1 electrophysiological-style upright microscope is not mined, produced, or manufactured in the United States in sufficient and reasonably available commercial quantities, of satisfactory quality.
