Scientific-Grade CMOS Camera for Fluorescence Microscopy

Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability

Agency: NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY (1341) • Product Service Code (PSC) : 6640 | Last Modified: 09/18/2024

Procurement Summary

The National Institute of Standards and Technology, Materials Measurement Laboratory, Materials Science and Engineering Division (MSED) is involved in the advancement of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy with imaging capabilities for the characterization of model biopharmaceutical vaccine solutions, networks, and gels. MSED requires a scientific-grade Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) camera for fluorescence microscopy to operate with low fluorescent light levels within custom instrumentation. The camera must be C-mount compatible with an Olympus BK51 illuminator. The scientific-grade CMOS camera requires thermoelectric cooling to achieve low noise levels.

Waiver Rationale Summary

Consistent with market research results, no domestic product has been identified that can meet the Government's requirements. The required scientific-grade CMOS camera for fluorescence microscopy is not mined, produced, or manufactured in the United States in sufficient and reasonably available commercial quantities of satisfactory quality.
