Waiver Rationale Summary

VAMC Providence has been using the Strauss brand resectoscopes for one (1) year. The precision technology offered by the Strauss brand resectoscopes has provided improved outcomes for prostate/bladder detection and resection and has reduced patient risk and increased patient comfort due to the one-in/one-out detection/resection capability of the Strauss resectoscopes, which is peculiar to the Strauss brand. The new scopes are compatible with the Karl Storz Blue Light technology which integrates with the Strauss resectoscopes to provide precision detection/diagnostics/analysis for transurethral resection of prostate and bladder tumors, and affords a one-time, in-and-out, transurethral incision of the same. Blue Light Technology enables surgeons to detect tumors and lesions that would otherwise be challenging to detect, due to the inconsistent ability to distinguish the same from healthy tissue when viewed through a scope using white light alone.
