Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability

Agency: NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (7529) • Product Service Code (PSC) : 6515 | Last Modified: 06/22/2024

Procurement Summary

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institute of Health (NIH), National Institute of Neurological Disorder and Strokes (NINDS), Delegated Office of Acquisitions (DOA) is requesting approval for an exception to the Buy American Statute (BA). NINDS requires the motorized x-y-z stages to enable multiphoton imaging of the brain during learning.

Waiver Rationale Summary

NINDS requires the motorized x-y-z stages to enable multiphoton imaging of the brain during learning. A major goal of the research performed by the lab is to understand communication between the neocortex and cerebellum while animals learn novel behavioral skills over weeks. The lab will measure activity in both cortex and cerebellum using a custom three-photon microscope, across multiple genetically defined populations using dual-wavelength imaging. To flexibly position animals underneath the fixed microscope head, a motorized platform is needed. The items satisfy the need to study brain activity changes underlying learning by enabling flexible multi-site in- vivo brain imaging.
