The domestic nonavailability determination is for the pharmaceutical drug Zolpidem Tartrate which is an extended-release tablets for the short-term treatment of insomnia characterized by difficulties with sleep onset and/or sleep maintenance. The pharmaceutical is supplied by the VA Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) via direct mail order pharmacy services to a Veteran or beneficiary’s place of residence.

Waiver Rationale Summary

This determination is for Zolpidem Tartrate. The pharmaceutical is supplied to Veterans via VA's CMOP pharmacy which provides direct mail order pharmacy services to the Veteran and/or beneficiary’s residence. Historically, the pharmaceutical could be purchased via VA's Pharmaceutical Prime Vendor (PPV) program. However, the pharmaceutical is not currently available via the PPV contract. Therefore, an open market procurement is the only option that exists at this time. The market research efforts resulted in no domestic end products for the pharmaceutical that meet VA's requirements.
