Cattle Squeeze Chute

Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability

Agency: FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (7524) • Product Service Code (PSC) : 3730 | Last Modified: 10/20/2023

Procurement Summary

This acquisition is for the purchase and delivery of a new cattle squeeze chute brand-name only to the Arrowquip Q-Catch 87 Series Manual Chute with Vet Cage

Waiver Rationale Summary

The mission of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is to protect human and animal health. To fulfill that mission the Office of Applied Science conducts applied research related to the effectiveness and safety of drugs and feeds given to food producing animals and the safety of animal derived foods to humans. To effectively and humanely house and maintain large animals, such as cattle, a squeeze chute is a key piece of animal handling equipment that is critical for CVM's research program. Working with large animals, such as cattle, can inherently involve risk to personnel. A squeeze chute designed with safety features for both the operator and animal is required to minimize that risk. The Arrowquip Q-Catch 87 Series Manual Chute with Vet Cage has both safety and humane animal handling features that other models do not have. It is the only model that was found to meet all Statement of Work requirements; however, the chute is manufactured in Canada and thus requires a Made in America waiver.
