Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability

Agency: US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY (1434) • Product Service Code (PSC) : 6680 | Last Modified: 08/23/2023

Procurement Summary

"The USGS Volcano Science Center has a requirement for One laser-induced breakdown spectrometer (LIBS) element analyzer. The microscope has allowed users to collect larger petrographic images at high resolution. This dataset is often used as a reconnaissance tool for follow-on analytical work, streamlining the data collection process. The spectrometer produces an add-on element analyzer (LIBS) that connects with the current VHX-7000 and allows the user to semi-quantitatively characterize their material at the micron scale, without extensive sample preparation. "

Waiver Rationale Summary

USGS, Volcano Science Center, Menlo Park, CA will not be able to meet their mission goal as the petrographic microscopy is a fundamental tool for mineralogical, earthquake, and geochemical research at USGS Menlo Park
