Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability

Procurement Summary
The National institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Laboratory on Neurobiology of Compulsive Behavior within NIMH performs various experiments using ex vivo brain slices. In order to prepare slices, they are in need of vibratome. The vibratome will be used for various experimental protocols pursued in the Laboratory on Neurobiology of Compulsive Behavior. The essential characteristics of the Leica Vibratome VT1200 S Configuration System that limit the availability to a brand name sole source is that it is the only commercially available item that exactly matches the current two existing vibratome systems currently used in our lab. The Leica Vibratome VT1200 S Configuration System requires compatibility to our other two Leica Vibratome systems. Purchasing another vibratome brand system would cause irreparable harm to our ongoing experiments and research. NIMH requires the same equipment in order to compare the data that has been collected thus far as well as the data collected by collaborators which would allow for substantially more powerful studies.
