Procurement Summary
NOAA requires a turnkey system designed and built to provide accurate position, heading, attitude, heave, and velocity data for hydrographic surveying. Salient characteristics are comprised of the following items: POS MV Computer System (PCS), Rack Mount (RM) with RTK option; Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) in IP65 “Between Decks” housing; IMU cable (8m); Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) antenna (quantity 2); and GNSS cable (10m, quantity 2). POS MV blends GNSS data with angular rate and acceleration data from an IMU, and heading from GPS Azimuth Measurement System to produce a robust and accurate full six degreesof- freedom position and orientation solution. The PCS, IMU, and GNSS components are integrated within one singular instrument.
Waiver Rationale Summary
The Applanix brand systems are already in use on NOAA vessels, and are required to ensure compatibility with existing systems and consistency of data. The Applanix POS MV inertial navigation system is an integral component of an operational hydrographic survey vessel. This device distributes navigation and motion data to a suite of interconnected scientific instruments while also recording the same navigation data for later processing and refinement.
