Quantbio Q qPCR System
Waiver type - Procurement: Nonavailability
Agency: NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (7529) • Product Service Code (PSC) : 6515 | Last Modified: 11/10/2022
Procurement Summary
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a part of the NIH, and conducts research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. The NINDS mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease. The NTDU utilizes a variety of techniques to conduct translational research to develop therapies for neurological diseases. One of these techniques is the protein thermal shift assay which assesses the binding affinity of protein/drug combinations that may have therapeutic relevance. One way to perform this assay is with a qPCR instrument that also has special software that can determine the protein/drug binding affinity. The Quantabio Q qPCR instrument is a small machine that has the necessary capabilities to assess and quantify protein/drug interventions at a throughput that will allow the NTDU to test a variety of drugs against target proteins that have relevance in the treatment of a variety of neurological diseases.
Waiver Rationale Summary
NINDS is requesting MIAIO waiver for the Quantbio Q qPCR system to perform many protein thermal shift assays with the goal of facilitating drug discovery. After market researches was conducted, it was concluded that Quantbio Q qPCR system are not mined, produced, or manufactured in the United States in sufficient and reasonably available commercial quantities and of a satisfactory quality.
